Apple promises to change the sports streaming experience with the Vision Pro.

The Apple Vision Pro is officially on sale in the United States starting Friday and the company seems all set to usher in a new era of personal computing with its bet on what it calls “spatial computing.” The Cupertino-based tech giant on Thursday announced 600 new apps and games designed for the device on top of the one million apps on the App Store that the company says is already compatible.

The Vision Pro headset essentially presents an augmented reality canvas that users can interact with using their eyes, hands and voice. At its simplest, the expensive headset can massively improve your media consumption by turning your room into a personal theatre where you can watch sports, TV shows, and films

Here are some of the 600 apps that Apple has announced and how they take advantage of the advanced device’s capabilities to provide an experience you may not have had before.

Changing the way you experience sports

The Apple Vision Pro’s high-resolution displays deliver what amounts to more than a 4k tv worth of pixels to each eye, letting users watch content on the equivalent of a 100-foot screen. Apps like PGA TOUR will have real-time shot tracking layered on top of 3D models of golf courses along with key stats like leaderboards, scorecards, schedules and other tournament details provided in an interactive format.

The NBA app will allow basketball fans to stream up to five different broadcasts with Multiview, letting them keep an eye on real-time player and team stats while also letting them peep at other games and scores. The MLB app will try to immerse users in a baseball stadium with a view from the home plate and stats from each pitch.

Festive offer

Red bull TV will display 3D maps of races along with high-quality video and immersive environments. The MLS Season Pass. Along with this, there will be a host of compatible apps from top cable and broadcasting providers.

Stream like never before

Streaming apps like Disney+ and Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max will take advantage of the Apple Vision Pro’s capabilities to give users a new way to watch their favourite movies, shows and more.

The Apple TV app will make Apple Originals from Apple TV+ available to Vision Pro users. This includes more than 200 3D movies and Apple Immersive Video, which the company claims will put the viewers right inside the action with 180-degree 8k 3D recordings captured using Spatial Audion. Apple Music will allow you to download and stream more than 100 million songs ad-free with Spatial Audio.

Apple Vision Pro could change productivity

Apple makes it clear that the Vision Pro is not all play and no work. The 3D user interface removes the boundaries of a display from apps, allowing them to appear side by side at any scale, creating the ideal canvas for multitasking and collaboration. You can pair a Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad or even get your Mac’s capabilities into Vision Pro with Mac Virtual Display.

The app Box is built specifically for visionOS and is designed to make it easier to collaborate and securely manage files and content. The MindNode app will help users brainstorm with thought bubbles that float around the virtual space. OmniFocus and Omniplan use data and project management visualisation in large windows to view a complete project plan.

Microsoft 365 productivity apps like Fantastical and Numerics will make use of this same “infinite canvas.” JigSpace will combine 3D content, audio, video and text in interactive step-by-step spatial presentations. You can also join your Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Webex calls using your Apple Vision Pro.

Gaming on visionOS

Apple Arcade will have a catalogue of 250 games that can be played on Apple Vision Pro with no in-app purchases or ads. This includes popular titles like NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition, Sonic Dream Team, and TMNT Splintered Fate. There will also be titles built specifically to take advantage of the Vision Pro and visionOS. Games like Super Fruit Ninja, Synth Riders and Game Room will be “spatial games” that can be played in augmented reality.

New experiences with the Apple Vision Pro

You don’t need the Apple Vision Pro to watch movies and sports or play Fruit Ninja to begin with, rather, the device lets you have the same experiences in a new way. Along with that, Apple is bringing out new experiences that would not have been possible without an augmented reality/virtual reality headset. The Hold the World app will transport users to the Natural History Museum in London with Sir David Attenborough, allowing them to explore rare specimens from the museum’s collections.

The Archive will take users to different places to explore locations, artifacts and spatial media from Star Trek’s screenwriter Gene Roddenberry and other creators. There are apps like Voyager by ForeFlight, which will allow you to see 3D representations of air traffic and flights. CARROT Weather will use 3D weather maps to deliver “hilariously twisted forecasts,” according to the company.
